Tour Program
Day 0. Kathmandu. Arrival
tWhy do we start from Nepal? First, flight to Nepal is usually much cheaper than flight to Tibet. Secondly, we will need some time to finalize the issuance of permits to enter the country and settle numerous visa formalities. Third, the classic path from Kathmandu to Lhasa through all the most famous places in Tibet is the best way of pilgrimage to this fascinating region. IMPORTANT! Because the Visa issuance takes some time, you will have to arrive at Nepal at least 3 days before the beginning of the tour. Our guides will help you with any questions concerning accommodation and pastime for these days.
Day 1. Kathmandu- Nepalese-Tibetian border - Kerung
Early in the morning we leave for the border between Nepal and Tibet along an extremely picturesque road, surrounded by mountain peaks and rice terraces. After the necessary formalities at the border, we continue driving up for another 2 hours and finally stop for the night in the city of Kerung.
Day 2. Kerung- Tingri
Day trip to the highest mountain plateau in the world from where you can enjoy one of the best views of Tibet. This is the place where people obtain a sense of being on top of the world. From there, during the day, we will be able to observe breathtaking panoramas of the legendary Himalayan eight-thousand meter peaks, including Mount Cho Oyu (altitude 8200 meters) and Mount Xishapagma (8012 meters), surrounded by endless Tibetan landscapes. Further, we will continue our way to the city of Tingri, where we will stay for the night. From Tingri we will have a magnificent view of the highest mountain in the world - Everest (8,848 meters).
Day 3. Tingri- Xigatse
On jeeps we continue our way through the highest pass in Tibet - Gyachu La (5220 meters), after which we head to Lhatse, where we will enjoy the Kailash mountain - one of the most famous peaks in Nepal (6638 meters). Legends says that it is inhabited by the god Shiva himself. Annually hundreds of people go to the so-called "walk around Kailash", the sacred path around the mountain. We stop for an overnight stay nearby in the town of Xigatse.
Day 4. Xigatse- Gyantse
After breakfast, we visit the famous Tashelunpo Monastery - one of the largest Buddhist monasteries of Tibet (built in 1447). Closer to the second half of the day, we move to Gyantse where we will visit the huge 32-meter Kumbum temple with 108 halls and altars on 4 floors, as well as the Pelkor-Ched Monastery, where numerous Buddhist sculptures from ancient times are preserved. We stop for the night in Gyantse.
Day 5. Gyantse- Lhasa
Today is our last day before the city of Lhasa, capital of Tibet. We go up even higher and pass by the glacier Karola (5010 meters), so then we can overcome the pass of Kambala (4750 meters). Then we visit the sacred lake of Yamdrok-Tskho - one of the symbols of Tibet. It has the height of 4488 meters and is well known for its mystical properties. For the unique color of water, changing every few hours, and an unusual form Tibetans call it "Precious green jade." After the lake we make the last stop today at the legendary river Brahmaputra, which is the continuation of the Indian Ganges River.
Day 6-7. Lhasa
Two full sightseeing days in Lhasa, without relocations. We visit one of the largest temples in the city - Jokhang, and afterwards head to Bazaar Barkhor - an amazing place, which is at the same time the spiritual and commercial center of Lhasa. Every day Tibetans come here wishing to worship the holy monastery, while others just go here to visit the largest market of Tibet. Of course, our stay in Lhasa will not be complete without the main symbol of Tibet, the magnificent Potala Palace, towering over a hill above the city. You will have enough time to fully explore this huge palaces and temples complex, which for many years was the main residence of Dalai Lama. Also in Lhasa we are going to visit Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery and many other interesting sacred places.
